Filming for The Unnecessary Thing April 2018
This is student thesis short film was written and directed by Noemi Veronik Szakonyi from NYU's Tisch Film School and is about sisterhood. Synopsis: Amy (12) and Annie (8) are going over to Amy's friend Mandy's. Amy and Mandy want to talk hang out and chat but Annie is always in the way. Mandy figures out a game, which puts the two sister's relationship to a test. Vanessa plays Mandy.
Filming for Yallah April 2018
Vanessa plays a lead role as the Refugee Girl. This is an experimental film inspired by refugee problem depicting the phenomenon and brutality of war from the perspective of a child. "Yallah" means "come on, let's get going and hurry up" in Arabic. The film is directed by international dance instructor Aliya Kerimujiang from NYU's Tisch Film School. Vanessa sings and plays the violin, in addition to her role.
Drive released April 1, 2018
Drive is a short film based off the collected work of poet Hettie Jones, part of the Visible Poetry Project (VPP) 2018. This Powerful film presents a lyrical, collective portrait of the American female experience. Vanessa plays the daughter. The film is directed by April Xiong and Adam Pivirotto. It was released as the first film for this year's Visible Poetry Project and has been screened nationally and internationally. It was alas screened at the NYC Poetry Festival on July 27, 2018.
Short released January 2018
Vanessa plays a lead role as Lindsay, the friend of two dating middle school students. This short film is about peer pressure and youth insecurity. The film was written and directed by Hunter Livingston from NYU's Tisch Film School and has received a number of film festival awards since being released.
Green (Good Immigrants) released March 2018
Vanessa plays a supporting role as the daughter of tourists who take a pedicab ride in Central Park, NY. This short film is about a new immigrant's life-altering struggle with social injustice and will be released in 2018. The film is written by Suzanne Andrews Correa and Mustafa Kaymak, from Columbia University, who are the director and producer, respectively. The film has been selected for many festivals, including Sundance and NBC, and has received multiple awards, including the Sundance Short Film Award.
Run draft released May 2017
Vanessa stars as Katya, who along with her brother Andrei, are hunted by Nazis during WWII in Russia. This is a short film written and directed by Kat Gueli, from LIU Post. The role required some difficult scenes including some lines in Russian. Below is a first release of the film:
